I purchased a new ignition sensor for 5.0 alpha 1998 mercruiser. The installation instructions(photos) show a black wire centered between the red and green, but do not mention where the black wire goes. (The original sensor did not have the black wire)If it is a ground, where is a good place to put it?

Thanks,

Re: igniton sensor

You must have the quicksilver part which I also got to replace my sensor. I called mercruiser and yes, the black is grounded. My original sensor also did not have this. I bolted this connector with one of those nuts that holds down the riser. Good ground connection and you don;t expect to be removing these bolts every now and then. If you have to, easy to remove. I've ran the boat 40 hours since then and no problem. I get quicker starts with cold engine. Also replace the sensor wheel at the same time.

Re: igniton sensor

Thanks alot,
I seem to have had 3 seemingly unrelated electrical items this month. I tend to break more things when I try to fix something. Any advice is highly appreciated
