I have a 2008 Tahoe Q4 3.0L 4cyl (135hp) bow rider and would like to adjust the ignition timing. I've done research online however the 2 white wires going to the distributor which are suppose to be jumpered to bring the engine to base timing, do not exist. the colors that I have at the distributor are white, black with white stripe ,purple. Does anyone have any idea which 2 of the 3 i need to jumper before adjusting the timing?

Post some pictures, the OEM ignition system does not have colors like that going to the distributor.

sorry for the mistake on color coding. 2 x purple w/white stripe and 1 white with blk stripe. i'm assuming it's the connector on the right with 3 wires on it. see attached photo

Re: ignition timing

I don't know why your wiring is color coded like that, it's not OEM. What is the serial number of the tag on the block, not a decal, the block tag.

The two purple/white striped wires on the 3 wire terminal are the ones that should be white. The white/black stripe should be going to your shift interrupt switch.

Re: ignition timing

I just pulled the 2 purple w/white stripe out of the harness and they don't go anywhere. they are crimped with female but splices. could this have been installed to facilitate the process of jumping out the ignition without removing the OEM harness connector?

To answer your question with regards to the wiring not being OEM, I purchased this boat brand new and this wiring was never modified.

Re: ignition timing

Yes, I found it, you have the 14 pin main harness connector not the round 10 pin everyone is used to. Funny thing is, there is no manual that tells about those wire colors or where they hook. Just a wiring diagram I found.

Just use the standard EST timing instructions, just change the color coding to what I said earlier.

Re: ignition timing

Just so you can see what I am talking about, in the picture below, item 7 is the connector shown in your photo. The white black striped wire going to the shift interrupt switch is actually terminal 4 and it plugs into 10 in the picture (Yes, it's a purple wire).

Where you find 5 and 6 is anyones guess.

Mercruiser does it again

Re: ignition timing

Thank you very much for your time....I have just one more question, after jumping the enigma wiring as u suggested, do I have to also jumper out the shift interrupt switch as well?
thanks in advance
