Ignition question

Hi
I cannot get my starter to turn over with the key. Using a light tester, I get a faint current from the "S" wire on the starter....the light is real dim though.

I ran a jumper wire from the "S" on the ignition switch to the "S" on the starter and it starts just fine.

The starter and ignition switch are both new.

You need to get a multimeter and start checking voltages at various places.

Start with the ignition switch measuring the start terminal while you are trying to crank. If it is good, start heading back to the starter. The next place to look would be your neutral safety switch. It may be out of adjustment or just bad. After that, you may have a slave solenoid in the path to the starter solenoid.

If at the starter, you measure low voltage, check the engine harness connector to see if it's loose or corroded.

Neutral safety switch, wiring connection between the starter and switch, or a corroded wire itself.
If you have a slave relay in your model, check the connectins on it also.
