Hello Everyone,
I have a 1988 Wellcraft 210 Classic with a MerCruiser 5.7. I am having issues with the starter engaging consistently. I am wondering if this is a common problem.
So here is what happens, when I turn the key, it does not always engage the starter. When it does, she cranks over just fine. I started noticing it last year. It never left me stranded, but I don't want to have to worry about it.
Here is what I have tried...
1. I bought a new switch for $20 this year, installed it tonight thinking that would solve it, but it did not.
It was the first time trying to start it this year.
I would like any advice on troubleshooting it I can get.
I was thinking about starting with making sure contacts are clean... and taking a voltmeter back to the starter to see what is making it back there when the switch is turned to "start" am I on the right track???
Thanks
