Ignition Coils

I have a force 50 hp 1985 engine with points not a cdi unit. I can't find new coils for this engine, so can I use a car 12 volt coil instead?

Hi. You can on a chrysler, but the problem I had was I couldn't mount them and put the cover back on. I just went to autozone and got a couple of cheap 12 volt coils and a couple of ballast restistors. My 45 ran real well for a tank or two of gas, it just looked rather odd with the cowling off.

Thanks for the Information, the ballast restistors you used what vechile where they for or what should I ask for?

Just ask for "Ballast Resister". Depending on your age, cars ysed to have a ceramic block mounted on the firewall. These add a bit of resistance to the circuit and keep the coils from frying.
