ignition coil or switch box

I have a 1999 mercury 9.9. Starts fine every time but when it gets hot motor just quits. I let it cool for about a half hour motor starts easily but will again quit when it gets hot. Two suggestions were either switch box or ignition coil. How can I find out which it is and are these difficult to replace?
