Igintion breaker pops when turning engine

I have 89 Sea Ray with Thunderbolt igintion. When I tried starting the engine the breaker keeps popping. I pulled the breaker out and tried to bypass, I noticed that the wires started to get pretty hot right away so I figured it wasnt a bad breaker. Can anybody help me with figurering out what might be the problem. Thanks

It "trips" with key on or when key turns to crank?
Key on points toward the dashboard.
Crank = engine harness. Disconnect the yellow/red wire at the starter. Hit the starter again. Either the solenoid has a short or the engine harness.

Check all your connections from battery to breaker (solenoid) to the starter.
If ok, time for a new starter. The bushings or windings are worn out and causing a overload.

AND in the future, don't EVER EVER EVER bypass a breaker or fuse to check a circuit without using another breaker of fuse..... You'd have been real sad if your boat had burst into flames.

Same thing I tell every one go tot the stickies adults only and troubleshoot it's the only way to self educate and if all else fails replae the mostr least expensive part 1st HINT (ignition switch)

AND in the future, don't EVER EVER EVER bypass a breaker or fuse to check a circuit without using another breaker of fuse..... You'd have been real sad if your boat had burst into flames.

Ya I no it was stuiped i didnt do it for long just wanted to make sure it wasnt fuse i didnt have one on me. I held the wire to if it would get hot which was right away so stopped.

Ya it trips when key is turned on sometimes it will turn over one to three times and then pop and sometimes it pops just when turned on. Thanks

Ya it trips when key is turned to crank sometimes it will turn over one to three times and then pop and sometimes it pops just when turned two crank. Thanks

Thanks for the advice I did check the connections already and seem ok the stater is about seven years old so ill check that.
