If water comes out of propeller it means thermostat opened and water pump working?

Noob question. Just wanting to understand how it works. If I see water coming out of the propeller when outboard is on, it means the thermostat opened and the water pump pushed the water through the cooling system? Thanks

Thre is a bypass. The raw water pump is always running. The water has to go somewhere when the T-stat is closed. Further the presure from your water hose from your house will push water thru the system even if the pump is bad. So, running on the hose proves nothing except the engine runs.

Could anyone share how you can get water through the propeller without the thermostat opening?
The thermostat in a marine motor is used as a mixing valve. There is always water being pumped into the motor , the thermostat may or may not divert a small amount of water thru the motor,, however water is always flowing out the exhaust to keep it cool and from burning up your boat
