any chance the wrong alt was installed and made to fit?

Well, the alternator sits in a bracket. The bracket fits. But this doesn't mean that the alternator didn't have a boss on it to take up the gap I now see...

see post 14 , item #21 goes IN FRONT

Good, thats how I changed it to be.... And the pulley looks lined up pretty good. So either something is really wrong, or I need to add a spacer up at the alternator for item #21.

I can but not before Monday, Mother Day you know

NOT A PROBLEM!
Attached is what it looked like this morning. As noted, now there is a gap between the brackets at the alternator bolt.

You have 5 or 6 pulleys there, 1 of them doesn't line up with the rest. Should be easy to spot which one. Use a straight edge if you have to, like a 2' level. Use the crank pulley as your reference.

Any chance anyone can offer up some pictures of the alternator, bracket, idler pulley area for me?

We can only see so much from your pics. If that pulley is in fact forward of the crank pulley, that would be where the problem is. So not sure why you keep talking about your alternator and idler. So either the raw water pump was installed incorrectly or the pump shaft is walking out of the pump. Strait edge on the crank pulley will tell the story

Understood. The pulley which has the belt walking appears to have no function, hence I call it an idler. OEM has it listed as PULLEY. Alternator has been stated as this is where the Idler Bracket connects, yet once connected to the Idler bracket/Alternator Brace Bracket, there is a large gap to the mounting face of the Alternator Mounting Bracket. Either I am missing a part, have the wrong part, or something is not assembled right...

As you stated, it is almost as though something was not installed correctly. But what is the impact of those issues you mentioned?

If the pump has gone bad and the shaft is walking, I understand there would be considerable water leaking? Is this when running I assume? I did not notice anything.

If the pump was installed wrong, how could it be installed wrong that would not cause an issue, such as water leaking or the engine not functioning correctly?

I ask these to help me identify, not to criticize.

Does your water pump stick out further than the crank ? If so, that be the problem. . Has anyone been monkeying around with any of these pulleys and brackets ? If this motor used to run fine and all of a sudden it looks like your pics and the pump pulley is forward of the rest, leaking water or not, you got yourself a water pump issue.

Would you be able to show me what you mean on a diagram or with a photo?
