Idle/throttle adjustment

Have a 2000 Mercruiser 5.0 305 2BBL....idles high at abut 1200 until I pull the throttle cable forward then settles in at 700-800. How do I adjust to idle at the correct rpms?

remove the plastic barrel end on the throttle cable first, start motor and adjust idle rpm with idle speed screw, re-attach barrel so there is slight pressure against the linkage.

Sometimes a return spring helps. There are SS springs
