Identifying old Ranger boat

I bought this small boat last fall and can't find that it ever existed online.
It's 14' fiberglass with the rear corner handle brackets having raised RANGER lettering on them. There is no data plate anywhere on it but the previous own provided a WI registration card listing 14', 1974 Ranger and a VIN #.
I tried contacting Ranger and I guess they were bought out at some point and have no records that far back.
The 6hp on it only pushes it 5-6 mph (GPS). It seems to run smooth, but my guess is compression is low. The boat was orginally yellow but painted by the previous owner. Got it cheap since it needs a bit of work.
Does anyone know anything about this boat? Or at least educated guesses?
The main question is how much motor is it rated for?

'74 doesn't look off for that hull design. In the early 1970s EVERYBODY was making trailer boats, so finding information on a particular one is gonna' be tough. That's a pretty common design for fishing boats. Max HP rating is likely right about 10HP, maybe 15HP.

It won't go fast with that six on it, but it should plane with a light load. And the six shouldn't be hard to restore to good running order. But, I think you'd like a 10HP better.

technically that is all you need legally

remember, the interweb didnt exist until 1992.
