Hi, I have an old 3cyl Hydro electric drive Johnson (I think it's 80hp), but cannot find the model or year. The serial number is A0080120. If anyone can identify it from this information it would be greatly appreciated. The problem I am having with it is it idles fine, but under load it takes minutes to get up to speed. It doesn't sound like it's missing at all.
Cheers
Brian

Re: Identifying old evinrude

Howdy, guru.

Three cylinder Johnsons with hydroelectric shifting were made in the late 60s up to, I think, about '71.

They were 55, 60 and finally 70hp.

Did it ever perform to your expectations? The symptoms you describe could be simply the wrong prop for your application, or they could foretell serious trouble if not fixed now. That engine can sound fine at idle and be very slow to accellerate while running on two cylinders.

Do you have a tachometer? It would help greatly to know what rpm it is getting to at WOT.

Please give us more information about the performance problem.
