I was given a boat in lieu of auto repair payment and, of course, it needs motor work. I am an ASE Certified mech, but need help in identification for parts and torque specs. I offer the following:
Tag # (at starter bellhousing) 6805443/Block casting #2770087/Head casting #2776954/ Carb #13898940 4101. I do not see a balancer on the crank, just a pulley. I downloaded a Merc manual but the tag # does not appear to be covered in that manual. I need to identify the carb, year, and engine size, torque specs, along with timing, and ignition settings (points/plug gaps). I have read thread after thread and feel confused with reading contradicting info.

Thanks for the quick reply, Don. My only question thos, is i read a thread that stated no harmonic balancer indicates a 120. Is that not necessarily so?

Yes, the 140 has a harmonic balancer and the 120 has a pulley.

BUT, the engine SN you posted says it's a 140 according to Mercruisers dealer program.

Type in the SN and it gives you the model

Then the model number displays for the year and type.

I confirmed that tag number, so I believe you are correct based on the info I supplied. Thanks a ton for the help!
