Identifying a V8

I got two inboard V8s that I am trying to identify and not having much luck. After cleaning and scrubing I could make out the numbers that look like this.

Portside:

14 _ _ 3627
8 9
8

Starboard:

14 _ _ 476 _
6 8 6
8 6 8

The underscores indicate the numbers that I could not read very well and the numbers underneath the underscores are the possibilities of what I can't read could possibly be or what they look like. They go consecutively to the underscoresThe engines I believe to be a V8 small block 305's. Basically I am trying to figure out what they are so I can look up the timing info and time the darn things.

If anyone knows what those are or where I can start looking up the info, I would greatly appreciate the assistance. Thanks!!!

If looking at the engine from the front, can you see the back of the right side of the engine. If so there should be a 5.0L, or a 5.7L. Unless the engine is older than the 80's. Than I'm not sure.

Re: Identifying a V8

You really need to give a lot more information than those numbers. Those will only tell you what block it is.
Some information that would help:
1 Year of boat
2 Make of boat
3 Color of engines (Black=Mercuriser, Gray=OMC, Blue could be Crusader or ChrisCraft)
4 Any decals marking on the engines

Along with any of the above information, PICTURES!
