Re: Identify Engine?

Is there a way to tell which Model it is so I can try to get Manual?

Ayuh,.... The Only external difference 'tween 'em is,...
The 120 hp has Only a pulley on the front of the crankshaft,...
The 3.0l has a harmonic balancer, 'n a pulley,...

The manual would be the same for both,...

Head up to Don's Adults Only section, 'n follow the Mercruiser links to the factory manuals,...
You need manual #1,...

Re: Identify Engine?

It's going to be the 120 2.5 liter. (clean looking one to). The first year of the 3.0 was 72. OP needs manuals 1 and 2. And OP needs to get rid of that fuel line between the fuel pump and carb and replace it with a steel one. That's a fire hazard waiting to happen.

It's either a 110 or 120. Can you find a number on the carburetor? Either way, manual #1

I was also going to make comment on that fuel filter!

Re: Identify Engine?

Does anybody have a suggestion for an automatic bilge pump? What do you think about the Rule 1100? I read that they dont last too long?

You don't want anything after the pump that will have a tendency to perish and rot, and thus the pump will leaking fuel all over a hot engine. Rubber can also be easily nicked. Before the fuel pump no problem (all you'll do is suck air), but after, you want something that will last.

Have a Rule 1100 pump and auto switch in my boat since 1994, still running... I have recently hooked a Rule 360 (located right at the very back of the bilge, under the exhaust Y-pipe) to the same switch. still working well...

Re: Identify Engine?

On the fuel line - the inline filter is a "no-no" - but the line itself doesn't have to be metal. You can use type A1 fuel hose. (But yes, a metal line is preferred by many, and as is pointed out, a steel brake line can be easily bent with the proper tool and used without much effort).

But yes - that's one clean engine!

Also, if you're ever inspected, the Coast Guard will have a problem with that unapproved fuel line & filter. As Fishermark says, there is rubber, A1, Coast Guard-approved fuel line - std rubber brake line won't cut it. But you have to be very careful it's routed so as to not touch anything hot. When my engine tech's help messed up the carburetor fitting by not using a flare nut wrench, and finding my steel fuel line was no longer available, I had a new stainless steel line made up by a hydraulic parts & service outfit out of a piece of left over brake line stock. Was less than $30. I think he was supposed to charge me more than $40, but he couldn't get his computer to cooperate on the price, so he threw up his hands and made me a deal.
