Re: ideas for securing bow of boat to trailer
I use a turnbuckle on mine. Complete set up was about $15 from Champion Trailer several years ago.
This is a good setup but imo the turnbuckle should go down to the trailer frame, not the back to the winch post. You want it to have to different grounding points. If it is buckled back to the winch post, it might help with up and down movement but won't help in an accident when the winch post fails. Best to have the turnbuckle go to a welded on peice on the trailer with a d-ring.
And whoever said its not needed probably hasn't seen when a boat comes flying off the front bow roller in an accident. The front winch post is only so strong and can fail under extreme stops or accidents. Not saying the extra strap or chain are going to save your boat, but they can help prevent major catastrofee in an accident. I simply use a winch strap rated for 10000 ponds wraped downward around the frame. I wrap the strap two times around frame and return it to the bow eye and tighten down.
Don't forget the stern straps!
