I made an Ice chest to put in my rear bench seat and am thinking about what to use to paint the inside of it.

I need something durable since can and bottles are going to be thrown around in there.

I was thinking about putting a white pigment in poly resin and putting another coat on top. My other thought was to use gel coat. I don't have any experience with either method.

What do you guys think? Thanks!

Greg

agree with studly, greg another nice job. you may have found a career, or a darn good hobbie. ihave to ask are you learning this own your own, or do you have a mentor, or taking some tech classes? for you age it's almost unbelieveable.

Re: Ice chest in my bench seat

Haha thanks! I actually learn everything I know from reading. I don't really know anyone that has done anything like this and they don't offer any tech classes at my school. My dad and brothers aren't in to this type of thing, its just something I have always liked to do.

Funny thing is I have actually been teaching my dad how it all works as I go along.

I guess I'll go ahead and try the tinted resin. I hope it turns out well. Thanks!

Greg

Very nice work Greg! I made one similar and used tinted resin and was very happy with it. You may want to put a drain of some sort in it as well. I drained mine right into the bilge with good results.

I also made a ice box and sunk it in the floor. Epoxied a brass bilge drain fitting into the bottom of the box. With a hose running back to the bilge. I just used some white paint the marine store had on sale no problem after a year.
good luck looks nice.

Consider adding some baffels, small panels in the bottom, this will keep the sloshing water to a minimum and might help keep the lid on your Tater Salad. Put some small weep holes at the bottom of them to allow the water to drain through. Enjoy, it looks great.

greg find your dads coleman cooler in the garage and take the drain off it. you can use a thru hull fitting, like the one used for the bilge pumps, the plastic type are good as they come with the sealing gaskets. just put a cork in it.
