I was looking for the West get together thread, couldn't find it, any more plans and is it open for self-invites?

No thread yet due to procrastination. Let's start it here:<br /><br />Everyone is invited to an iboats West get together. We are thinking at this point, Lake Havasu, Saturday April 8th. We'll start to talk about a specific location when we get a little closer. I was thinking we meet say 10:00AM and then decide what if anything we do after that depending on the weather. Probably a good idea to meet at one of the public beaches at the south end of "the Channel". I'll poke around for the best one and post a map. We could also select a close cove, so we don't have to beach. Copper Canyon makes the most sense due to location and size. That early in the year it shouldn't be too busy.<br /><br />Let's just keep posting and go from there.<br /><br />KRS,<br /><br />Maybe change your thread title to "iboats West get together" or sumpin' like that. I'll note to look here from the "Mohave" thread . . .

I was thinking along thoes lines, when I suggested the JBs tank thread. but everyone wanted to help. Then I was afraid JB didnt have enough fish left to feed everyone so I droped the Idea. And it would be pure hell to get everyone together US, Canada, Britan ,South Africa and the down Under folks. You west boys got a good Idea.

QC, <br />My boat doesn't have a nice padded lounge seats with shiny metalflakes, but has the old inline6 2smoke 90hp Merc. I hope my boat qualifies too!<br /><br />Any plan of things to do that day; or is it too early to discuss this details?

ST,<br /><br />Your boat is awesome. Whaler, right? If the weather is good I would usually head to "the Sandbar" although we have a favorite cove south down by Cattail. If JBs tank is like all the tanks I have hauled water out of about 50 loads would fix him up for about 3 mo.s. <br /> Yall have fun. sounds like a good time comming.

I haven't been to Havasu in almost 30 years. Sounds fun. Now if I can only get the explorer back in running order. <br /><br />Maybe I could talk my daughter into borrowing her blazer to tow the boat that far?

Hi DR!<br />Good to see you chimed in! As far as going around the lake; I've launched there for a few outings last year, and half of that were fishing only; so for the boating details I think we better leave this to you QC, or and DR; I understand you two are the long time regulars on this Colorado River region.<br /><br />I am thinking maybe after we spend the day on the water, we all can gather for a barbeque; how 's that sound? We can go to a restaurant maybe, but I think to have it on the open outdoor (like in our patio/back yard) and BBQ the steaks ourself (I’ll be happy to volunteer to be the cook) is more fun and relaxing! Any thought?

ST,<br /><br />I'll start to add some links and maps and stuff.<br /><br />I like the idea of a barbeque too, but want to make sure we don't pressure anyone that might be leery of meeting up with all of us weirdos . . . Also, anyone who stays down on the water may want to simply stay down there. Let's mull this for a little.<br /><br />Ya know, there are some barbeque pits out on the water actually connected to campsites. One of the best is reasonably close to the Bridge/Channel etc. and would be safe to return from after dark. I believe these campsites can be reserved and that time of year is very comfortable for camping out. Hmmmmmm . . . .<br /><br />Good to hear from AzMM . . . I think we have around 6 interested now: KRS, QC, DR, ST, AzMM and watered down has shown interest on the Mohave thread.

Thanks QC I've been lurking allot lately. Camping sounds just right to me and April on the water sounds real good. Just a quick search found several camp site's either right on or very near the lake. BLM has 105 sites accessible only by boat. No reservations. <br /><br /> Might just have to start a new batch of Mead tomorrow in anticipation.

I like the camping idea too, but I'm game for whatever. Boat camping is my absolute most favorite thing to do! Copper Canyon is definately the "happening" place to be like QC suggests, and should be one of the easiest spots to get to for everybody, although not everybody might be interested in the primative campsites. Staying closer to the city i.e. in the city, might be necessary for some, and that's cool too.

A neat spot that could probably accommodate all of us that might want to camp on the water is Friendly Island. My BIL stays there often. Not too far and much quieter than Copper. I'll see if I can get more details too. May need to be reserved . . .<br /><br />I just peeled this map off of my GPS. Hopefully you will be able to read the waypoints noted . . . Nautical Inn and The London Bridge Resort for hotels on the water. There is also a lot of developed camping on the Island (peninsula) itself. Camping on Friendly Island is outhouse, fire pit, awning type thing and a table. Only accessible by boat, which would be fun for those who like that type of thing and is another reason that some may not want to do any driving by car once situated.<br /><br />

Would up for dragging the little boat over to the water. Scheduling will be tight, will be abroad at that time but we should be able to return for this. Closer to end of April would be better for me, need a date asap. Also need an address somewhere near the meeting area so I can plug it into Mapquest.
