DQ was in order. If his passion is acting like an idiot then he needs to be less passionate. Somehow his upbringing was lacking. Maybe he should hold off having childrern because if he raises them as he is giving poor examples to our kids, then everybody loses.

Re: Iaconelli looses his mind...and his ride.

Mike has become the "badboy" image for a sport which does not need one. Kinda like the boat slolom course they had a few years ago. When I saw it, I thought, cool! Then I started to think, woah, somebody's gonna get a wild hair and try to pull this cr-p out on the lake and hurt someone...and then here come the new laws

The cameras tend to focus only on the four or five guys who act up the most, not necessarily the better anglers. Kinda like the clips from a Datona 500 race, you never see the good passes, just the crashes and the guy holding the trophy. ESPN rewards Mike and his "likes", as they have been called, for pushing unsportsmanlike conduct to the brink just to get more air-time. Fishing doesn't need that. Leave it on WWF.

Mike is talented enough that he need not act like that. If he took the time that he's using floppin around on the deck because he caught a fish (you're a pro Mike, don't be so shocked when you do your job) and applied it to additional casts, he might be in KVD's league, but not until.

ESPN has wrecked the sport in a number of ways over the last few years and this is just the next step in the de-evoloution of BASS. Sad.

spots

He had to purchase his Ranger, so he owns it. He says that he'll continue using it until another boat sponsor signs on...if one does.

just my 2 cents

i don't think mr mike is going to be around much longer, this is his second dq in a tourney and most sponcers don't like negative air time. he is going to be hard pressed for major sponsorship someone said he brings youth to the sport??? i hope he dosn't bring derilicts to this sport, which is still in its infancy. i have been with BASS now for a long while and personally (my opinion now he needs to take up a different career)

Mixed emotions here. On one hand, BASS is trying to follow the NA$CAR model for growth. That model emphasizes a new youthful audience with changes that appeal to that demographic. That includes breaking old moulds, pushing boundaries and getting attention (Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray). Skeet Reese reminds me most of Jamie with the punk hair and attitude. Mike is trying for the Jeff Gordon/Kurt Busch style. Even Swindle is loosening up and getting his own fan cheering section. KVD has mellowed from the brash of his youth to be a Jeff Gordon good guy. You all may not like it but change is good for the sport. It needs good guys and bad guys. Mike may need anger management counseling and I'm sure that he'll get it. He'll still break out once in a while.
The bottom line is still performance. No matter what you think of the individual, if he catches the fish, he catches the fish and qualifies. If he doesn't he's gone. If he brings attention to himself and the sport, so what! As long as illegal drugs aren't an issue like so many other sports, then I don't see a problem. Loosen up!

Sure. If it is just legal you say? I'll go along with that. The part I won't go along with is bad taste. Bad taste as in throwing the American flag overboard in a fit of rage over something stupid he did in the first place. Youth is fine, but being a poor sport is not what we need our kids to see. They get enough of that already.

I think Ike has just proven that he still belongs in pro competition by winning Guntersville yesterday. I hope he continues to put the Classic behind him. It sounds like the audience did!

With all that has been said about this subject most of you guys have made my point, but one thing still stands, that was such an imature thing to do, I agree that Mike has added a sence of youth and vigor to the sport, I have been known to yell a yahoo when Moby gets flipped into the boat, but I cannot get past the fact that he threw the light pole in the river with old glory attached. Sorry I don't feel that his regret is sincer. I think he needs some time to think about it and let someone else who is working there butts off living in hotels and trying to get what he pi....ed away. This is just my opinion! Semper Fi

Re: Iaconelli looses his mind...and his ride. UPDATE!

Gotta hand it to Ike, he put his nose to the grindstone and went to work. He won AOY!!
He won't be going away anytime soon.

If KVD hadn't been DQ'd, and was able to catch just one fish, he would have beaten Ike.

The numbers say he won, but I still think that Kevin is a better angler. To be third after loosing all those potential points (and you know he would have caught SOMETHING had he not been dq'd) is nothing short of amazing.

Oh well. Them's da rules.

Looking forward to next year.8)

I agree, KVD is a much better angler and is my fav over Ike. I'm just pointing out that it says droves that ike came back to even be in the top 5, much less winning. He definitely turned lemons into lemonade.
