spendy rods are nice for touchy fish like crappie but for most others cheaper rods work just fine. I broke my Light weight 7' Lamiglas rod that I used for crappies (got this fine 149$ rod for 3$ as a rummage sale) and replaced it with a cheaper IM6 graphite blank "Gander mountain" rod and I've noticed a HUGE difference in sensitivity while fishing for crappie and my bite to catch ratio has dropped alot. For bass, northern, and walleye I really haven't noticed much difference between expensive and cheap rods, you KNOW when they hit.

While I agree that the rods should not break no matter the cost. I dont however agree that a sensitive rod is not needed for bass fishing. I catch a lot of nice bass that I would never known were there if were not for braided line and high quality rods. Sometimes all you feel is the slightest little "Tick " on the line, when a bass picks up the bait. You only have that split second to set the hook before they spit it. In my experience large bass in pressured lakes are about as touchy and weary as you can get. The little guys still seem to hit like a freight train, but not the bigguns.

It is hard to explain to those that refuse to buy quality rods. Many times friends would tell me I am nuts,, that is till they used on of my good rods. Then all the sudden next time out they show up witha good rod

I agree that sensitivity is a needed quality in a bass rod, for most applications anyways. It helps to have a wide variety of weapons in the arsenal. Its important to mention though, that "quality" isnt only found in pricey rods- or reels for that matter. If you know what you are looking for you can find some nice stuff that doesnt empty the wallet.
