Flathead

I know how you feel when it comes to Jap bikes. They go like sh1t off a shovel but the engines need a rebuild after 10k miles.

On this side of the pond Triumph tends to be the ride for the real biker.

The HD's are kept for ploughing and other farmyard jobs.

:D :D

(Sorry I'm English, it's part of our culture to have a dig at the Harley)

Crotch rockets Is that what you mean as zip jap bikes if so not my style either Ive owned 3 Harleys in my life and a Indian plus a dozen or so Inline 4 as well as 2 cyl bikes each one had their pros and cons The quicker we pull in our horns ride the bike of our choice and stop this "My dogs better than your dog crap " the faster youll be riding and enjoying the company of those who like to ride . Because if ypu really think you or your machine is better than anything or one out there you ride alone!!

Must not have been as good as this 45 inch bike. I built this one outta scrap parts in the shop.

RPJS it even has a trumpet part or two on it :D Wish I would have kept it.

Scrapper I prefer to ride alone.

AHH!! You noticed that stock hub and brake laced to the 21 inch wheel :) That was a case and a half of beer job right there, pulled my hair out on that one. :D

Depends on how soon you put your feet down and how thick the sole on your boot. :D

Hahahaha, I love hearing this myth. I have 53,000 miles on my bike, and I've done nothing but change the oil. It's actually up a few HP compared to the testing at 5,000 miles. I've done 3200 in a four-day weekend, and had it to 182.7 MPH as indicated by GPS. Pretty versatile.

And your point DJ?? I love American V twins. Wouldn't trade em for nothing. For one thing I have always made money on every one I sold. I like to get inside em and see what makes them tick.

I get into a Tacoma and drive home every day? Is the fact that I drive a jap truck supposed to make me like the Jap bikes?? I don't get it? I guess I have a flaw in my thought process. Does that mean if you drive a ford you have to ride a Harley?? Please enlighten me. I never bust anyone for riding a Jap bike. As a matter of fact I have more respect for the rice riders than 90% of the clowns on Harley these days.

Swampnut. 182 MPH, fast way to go to your grave :( Would rather do 50 MPH on my American P.O.S.

Or to San Diego. Actually I'm not sure I was making time at that speed since the MPG was so horrible. With the cruise set at 145 it's reasonable at least, and still quick.

I drive an American truck and a Jap bike, guess we're even? :D

Re: I RACED A HARLEY TODAY!

My first ride was a Suzuki GS750E it was ok, had a header, carb kit and electronic points conversion.
Second bike was a Suzuki 750 Intruder, it was pretty cool.
Third ride I got into the crotch rocket thing for a bit and bought a 600 Hurricane.
Then I decided to try a Harley and that was it. A bike with a personality finally. Pretty well all the other bikes would perform as good or better but I like the way the Harley's feel. I've had a few now; a shovel chopper, a low rider and a hot rod Softail. I'll stick to the Harleys now.

Flahthead (spelled correctly),

You know what I mean.

Toyo's are, at best: 55% American. Look it up. It's changed, while nobody was looking-used to be 85%.

Chevy's/Fords are at least 85% American.

Dodges/Nissans are off the map, being German/French owned.

With that said, I love the Harley story. An American Company that made good. Largely, IMHO, by the excesses of the "baby boomers". Be as that is, they still build-American" products.

Your Tacoma, Sequoia, whatever, is at best-a "half breed" with ALL of the profits to Tokyo.

We biotch bout American oil companies making all that $$$. Have you looked at Toyotas profit statement? My guess-NOT.

I KNOW the frequent visitors of this site LOVE their foreign products. I'll fight, to the death, for the products I represent. They're as good as anybody's yet generational biases do not allow for a second look. For now.

I excused the "crap" the Japanese sold here in the sixties-seventies. I owned them, I know. (Several "Z' Cars).

I guess the "forgiveness" for Detroit "perceived": crap is going to take 10 years?

Why is it "Crap" from Dodge/Plymouth brought the highest prices-EVER at Barrett Jackson, just past? Why, because MARKETING is the name of the game.

False Hemi's brought $$$ on a NAME only. Every engine built today is a Hemi. Actually, Ford introduced the center plug Hemi in 1955.

In the meantime, Americas industrial base goes away. We're all destined to be "servants".

But, YAAAWN, who cares?

As the song goes-"you don't what you got till it's gone".

The only way you can ride them crotch rockets is WFO because you sit on your nads so you try and get there as fast as you can. I personally like vintage and odd ball bikes.

Re: I RACED A HARLEY TODAY!

I've never found a better investment then American V Twins. My last Harley was a 1982 FXB. It sold brand new for around $4800. I bought around '97 for $4500. It had 48000 miles on it and was pretty rough looking. I put about $500 in it , road it for 4 or 5 years and sold it for $7800. Try that with other makes.

Re: I RACED A HARLEY TODAY!

DJ with all due respect my friend I have to chuckle at you. Of course I know where toyota stands in the rankings as a car manufacturer. Near the top. As well as HD as far as motorcycle too. Maybe that should tell ya something.

I suppose everything you own is American made?? I think not! Till that day you have no right to blast anyone for owning a product made outside our borders.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
quote from DJ."I guess the "forgiveness" for Detroit "perceived": crap is going to take 10 years?

Why is it "Crap" from Dodge/Plymouth brought the highest prices-EVER at Barrett Jackson, just past? Actually, Ford introduced the center plug Hemi in 1955.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So your saying Your defending the big three auto makers regardless if they slip in a false pretence of thier product?? Maybe that is part of the reason they are in trouble.

I have nothing against U.S. auto makers. I compared them all when I bought my vehicle, bottom line was the Toyota was far and away a better choice. At least the toyota manufactured right here in the USA are not laying off thousands!!

Don't know where you got this idea, but it's yet another of the common myths that the cruiser fanatics like to abuse. I can't ride a cruiser because it just kills my back. I've tried a Road King as well as a couple of metric cruisers, and can't take more than about 30 minutes before my back is killing me from putting all the pressure on my spine. I have done a lot of 1000 mile days and 3000 mile weekends on mine, couldn't do that on a cruiser.
