I am looking for a little input regarding V-belts. The alt. belt on my 3.0 Volvo is at the outer edge of the adjustment limit. As a precaution before I got on the water this weekend, I wanted to make sure that I had a back-up. I believe that I read here somewhere that automotive belts were not preferred for use on these engines-better to use marine or industrial style belts.

I bought a heavy duty industrial style belt that had a picture of a lawn tractor on it and it was white in color. Is this an acceptable belt for my application-or is this something that I should not depend on...?

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: I/O belts

Take your old belt to an automotive supplier and ask them to match it. I have never heard of using a marine specific belt. Electrical and fuel system components must be marine rated, but not sure why a belt would be. If you are concerned about the longevity of the belt, buy a spare also and keep it on the boat. I use an automotive belt on my VP.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Ayuh,........

Boats don't need Special Belts,.........

If you that concerned, Get 2 as noted......

That Change is especially Tricky with most of those 3.0ls,....
You have to remove the little piece of Motor Mount on the Portside to do the swap.........

If the boat has No history of eating Belts,.... I wouldn't Worry about it..........
If the boat Does have a history of eating Belts,........ Clean,+ Sand the Pulleys................

I get mine from Advance auto. For that matter I don't think Mercruiser even has belts for my Frankenstein'ed Mopar / Chevy cooling system.
