i have a 1976 85hp johnson and my question is how much oil will the lower unit hold?

Take both screws out and fill it (with a pump) from the bottom till it starts to come out of the top. It is then full. Replace top screw (with new seal washer) remove pump fitting and replace lower screw quickly but carefully (with a new seal washer)

Not sure how much. Less than a quart.

Little hand pump that fits on the oil bottle and the other end on your lower unit. Get it from an outboard dealer or around here a Wal Mart.
