Hey, my wife's birthday is the end of Feb, and we all know Valentine's Day is approaching. That is why I am going to Cabelas on Saturday! Bunch of guys are going. Told the Mrs I would find her a present there! She might not be impressed, but I will be happy!

chocolates and flowers work magic and can be ordered on the web :) :) .
lots cheaper than jewlery and you never ask for them back or have them thrown at you :)
they can also be picked up on the way home at the end of the day when you suddenly realize you forgot a very important date, as she wont :) :)

Re: I hate buying crap.....semi rantish

My wife's birthday is a few days before Christmas, so I get the double whammy there. By the end of the Christmas season, I am sick of the malls and stores.
Suprisingly, I've done rather well in the past buying clothing for her. Generally things I buy are the right size: not too small (you want me to lose weight  ), or too large (you think I'm fat  )
My true fallback gift is a "custom" gift certificate. I gussy up something using Microsoft Publisher, with all the clip art and neat-o fonts. This gives me a bit of say in what she gets (category of gift certificate), gives her the ultimate decision (colors, fit, style, etc...), and shows a good bit of thought on my part.

PONY forget shopping blind! Just ask her what she would like. You can get direction from that. If you get the "I don't know" answer then offer her a weekend away.

A real easy gift I have given my wife is a Spa treatment where she can get a manicure/pedicure.... works every time! She uses that when she wants to.

Bob

Romantic dinner for two and flowers is the safest. And by all means don't forget the mushy card. :)

Send the flowers to her house or her office.

Pony... I don't know what kind of stuff you like to do but I can reccomend something I've done in the past that the missez liked.

If there is one thing that almost all girls like doing, it is getting gussied up and going out for a night on the town. I usually do the ole 1-2 punch with a nice dinner then a show.

For the dinner... first, check this place out. It is called County Clare. It's a small Irish Restaurant downtown. They have AWESOME Shepard's Pie and just an all-around great atmosphere. Sometimes they have live bands but I haven't been lucky enough to catch one yet. It's classy enough that you can go all dressed up for a show, but you won't walk away spending $300 bucks. Plus, parking isn't THAT bad as it is in kind of a more residential area downtown. If you know where Buca's is near MSOE, it's right around the corner from there. Here's their website.

http://www.countyclare-inn.com/

Follow that up with a show downtown. Personally, I'm more partial to the Milwaukee Rep. The benefit with going to their shows is that no matter what ticket you purchase, you are pretty much sitting on the stage. Compared to something at the Marcus Center where they have thousands of seats where it is possible to only "hear" the show instead of seeing the show. Plus, the resident actors in The Rep are very good at what they do. My wife and I usually go to shows in the Quadracci Powerhouse Theater but if the show in that theater doesn't appeal to you give the Stiemke Theater a shot. It looks like the Stiemke is running a comedy through Feb. 12th.

Regardless, if it is a comedy or not, we have never gone to a bad show in either of those theaters. You may end up spending a little bit more than what you anticipated - but if Mrs. Pony is the kind of gal who likes getting dressed up and having a "night on the town" I highly reccomend it.

Here's a link to the Rep:

http://www.milwaukeerep.com/

If you have any questions, shoot me an email... I'd be glad to help. I can give you pointers on parking as well...

Sean

LMAO @ KaGee........she already doesnt understand why I spend so much time in that boat. :D

LF Says:
Romantic dinner for two and flowers is the safest. And by all means don't forget the mushy card.

Send the flowers to her house or her office.
This seems the most practical. I am thinking I need to decide whether I want to make dinner or go out to a restaurant.

Sean I like the dinner and then a show idea. One of my thoughts is that the Bucks have a home game that night which would be easier to hit up, especially if we ate somewhere downtown. I'll maybe ask her what she wants to do and see how that goes. Prolly the safest option :D
