Re: I dumb A$$'d it... mixture screws.. please help.
The manual for my engine matches my experience in getting mixture to a close spot so I'll take a shot at this question. First off, I'm surprised that you have 2 mixture screws on such a small engine.... sure one isn't idle maybe?
Anyways to get the mixture, turn the screws in until they are 'lightly closed'. Then turn the screws out about 1.5 turns. This should get you close enough that the engine will fire.
From there, put the engine into forward gear and turn the idle mixture screw counterclockwise until the engine starts to fire unevenly because it is too rich. Now slowly turn the screw clockwise until the RPMs pick up. Keep going and the RPM starts to decrease again, turn the screw about 1/4 turn counterclockwise to richen up the mixture a touch. This gets you pretty close.
Now try the engine out - if it hesitates when you accelerate or coughs at you, it's too lean so turn it counterclockwise to richen the mixture until the symptom goes away. It's better to be slightly rich than too lean as lean makes it hard to start cold and can do nasty expensive damage to your engine.
If you have 2 mixture screws on your engine, you either have 2 carbs (just do the above to each carb separately) or one is a low speed mixture and the other is a high-speed mixture. Figure out which is which and adjust each one using the same techniques but the appropriate throttle setting.

Sean
