Re: I don't get it.....
Well I think it is situational. Firstly, I would only borrow anything to someone, whoever it may be that is good for the repair or replacement.
You want to borrow one of my tools, no problem.
You want to borrow one of my cars, I need to think for a few seconds but probably no problem. The risks here are huge though. Sit through a couple liability classes and see the unmitigated disaster that can come of this. If you have a lot of assets then you have a lot to lose.
You want to borrow my snowmobile, I tried it already and the guy whom I was with severely damaged it. He did not pay for it and is my father in law whose cabin I was at at the time. One of my wealthy colleagues wants to borrow it and no problem as long as I am with them.
You want to borrow my boat, sorry never going to happen. Some things are just off limits. Maybe if I had a pos, I'd think differently but even a pos can sustain expensive damage. The slightest bit of damage to my boat when we have at best a 12 week boating season (for our boating needs) puts me in a huge line at the repair shop and lose the season. Why would I want to lose mine and my family's season to someone elses carelessness? If I had multiple boats at the ready and the conditions above applied, I might have a different take but none the less the liability issues still applies. Ignoring some of the indicators here would just make me naive.
