I have a 2007 200 h.p. Evinrude ETEC saltwater outboard engine and I can't turn off after I start it. When turning the key to the first position the power is turned on to the computer and fuel pump. Then turning it to the start position the motor turns on. Once the motor is running I can't turn the engine off by turning the ignition off, turning the emergency shutoff off, disconnecting the battery, pulled the ignition wires out of the ignition switch, and eventually I had to pull the spark plug wires to kill the engine. Is their something charging the system once the motor is running? Could it be a relay? Or could it be that the emergency kill switch is not properly grounded?

Both the ignition switch and the emergency kill switch use the same wires from the helm.

The engine ground (black wire) comes through the main harness to the small M post on the ignition switch and crosses to the large M post when either switch is closed. The kill wire (black with yellow stripe) runs to the powerpack.

To turn the motor off, the black-yellow and black wire have to short together. Chances are you may have a faulty key switch, but more likely a bad connection or bent pin inside a connector at the switch harness or at the engine harness.
