Yes, i broke my fishing rod on the very first fish i caught sat morning, an had to use my buddies spare the rest of the day.. So now I been lookin at fishing rods an theres so many different brands, and a extremely different price range..

I had an allstar 6"6 rod witch i really liked..

So what is the best all around medium heavy 6"6 rod, at a fairly decent price..

Allthough i mainly fish for bass.. whats everyones opinions..?

For the price, the "Ugly Stick" is a good bet.
Rods are like anything else in life, you can spend as much or as little as you want. Generally the cheapest or most expensive rods are a waste of money.

I have three different Quantum Torsion graphite rods- two spinning and one casting. I like them a lot, and for about $25-$30 at Wally Market they are quite inexpensive. I have held better rods and would like them, but they cost two or three of these rods plus a reel to buy just the rod alone. Some people have described stuff I own as junk, but I catch fish. I think those Quantums are a good deal.

I am St Croix Avid fan. Some would say they are expensive, while others will spend twice as much. What price range are you looking to spend? While I haven't used any, Shimano rods are getting allot of good press. Even their lower cost ones come with lifetime warrantees.

I purchase what's on sale or good value (in my humble opinion). Lately, it's been Berkley Cherry Stick at Walmart. Before that, it's been BassProShops $20 graphite rod. All are medium-heavy. I even have a Ambassaduer 6000 combo with matching 7' rod and fought a 3-foot stingray till my arms were shaking. Even have a 29-year old Zebco medium rod, but reel that came with the combo stripped out years ago. Only rod that broke on me was while fighting a hog seatrout. It was one that broke at the screw that went through the mount to clamp down on the reel. I'll never buy one of those type again.

at most 150.. i would like something thats light in my hand, and with some kind of lifetime warranty so i want halfta worry about buying one again.. but if its not possible to get a lifetime warrenty with somethin for 150, i've been thinking about goin to a family owned store close by an getting 3 or 4 allstar rods for 100 bucks.. cant remember if its 3 or 4 tho..

Well $150 is a whole different ball game. I still like my ugly stick but with that budget you have "LOTS" of options. Get yourself a cabella's or bass pro shops catalog and start asking for opinions on specific rods. There is never a shortage of opinions here on I-boats. And they rarely all agree.

Re: I broke my fishing rod..

Funny, I just broke my rod on sat too. It started thunder showering as I was cranking the boat back on the trailer and I rushed to grab stuff off the boat and tossed things on the back seat6 and closed my car door on my Daiwa graphite baitcasting rod that I use for trolling. It snapped it about 6 inches from the tip so I just got through sawing off the end clean and since it was hollow I was able to epoxy the tip and a few inches of rod back into the hollow end.

That's something I usually do with the trunk lid. Glad to see I'm beyond the trunk thing now. At least breaking rods with the door now I'm in uncharted territory :D

Now to see if it holds up for trolling.

The Avid comes with lifetime warrantee with excellent customer service, but is slightly higher than your price point (list). You might be able to get it lower at discount sources. At around $100 gets you a St Croix Premier or the newer bass technique specific versions "Mojo" line. Only a 5 year warrantee on those.

The Shimano Compre (around $100) and Crucial line (around $150) both come with lifetime warrantees. Worth looking at.

I say any Ugly Stik,I've only had one break, and that was from stepping on it in the boat,I knock the tips off in the rod locker, but a 6.0 tip is $1.49 at Cabelas.

For bass it looks like the Ugly stick is a fan favorite!! I personally use a 2 piece because I keep it in the trunk of my car. Most of the rods that I keep in my boat are 1 piece for better performance, not that I can tell the difference.

I can't say enough about the Carrot Stix rods that I have. I have four of them and they are awesome. All Carrot Stix rods have a lifetime warranty. If you break it, just send them a picture of the damage and a copy of the receipt. You will have a new rod within a week.

They start at $149 (rod only), so they're not for everyone. I prefer the Abu Garcia REVO SXT reels for these rods. That makes one sweet combination.

If your looking in the $100 -$150 range look into going custom. You'll end up with EXACTLY what you want without the compromises you have to make when purchasing a production rod.

Re: I broke my fishing rod..

St Croix has some very nice and more than adequate rods for about $130. Nice feel, sensitive. I like them a lot, but haven't spent that kind of money on a rod yet :>)
