I bought a Honda 9.9 hp 4 stroke (Model #BF9.9A and serial # BABL1201315 - long shaft) over craigslist when prior ower lied about the motor can run and idle. I should have not trusted people and should have brought my compression tester. I started the outboard electric start, but the motor ran only 30 seconds. I checked the compression of the 2 cylinders. The top is 60 psi and the bottom is 100 psi.
Question #1 - Would this cause the motor to not continue to run and idle? I didn't try putting it in gear so don't know if motor will stay running in gear.
Question #2 - Owner claimed it was a 1997 motor, can someone confirm it please?
Question #3 - I tested the motor in the water bucket, and noticed the lower unit was blowing big bubbles and when I reached in to feel the fin underneath I felt oil. My guess is lower unit is leaking water - Do you agree? I think I am going to drain the lower unit oil to confirm this.
