Interstate, grp. 24 marine cranking battery is $65 at Costco
You couldn't give me an Interstate battery for free.Boating for over 30 years and any Interstate I have ever had FAILED in less than 3 years.nAbsolutely crap!!! A much much better choice is a Walmart battery.I have had WAAAAAAAY better luck with Walmart batteries.Sorry to disagree but I feel very strongly about this as this is fact and not opinion.Charlie

Years back a family member ran an auto repair shop, Interstate offered him a big promotion and bonus for recommending their batteries. Most everyone in the family bought batteries from him when needed over the next couple years. He got some nice kickbacks for all the batteries he sold. About 2-3 years later a large number of the batteries went bad and had issues. So many the interstate tried refusing to replace them under warranty. Really gave everyone a hard way to go when honoring warranties !
We are talking over 100 batteries went haywire in a three year period, obviously a bad batch, could happen to anyone, however....the harsh way in which interstate handled this mess, made most folks turned off by the name. I know that I have had two of their batteries, one lasted one year, the other lasted two years, they were four year rated batteries. I have had far superior service from cheap Wally World batteries and no hassle if there is a problem....

Check the capacity rating of each battery. I have two Interstate batteries from Costco and when they finally go I will be replacing them with another brand. I don't remember the exact numbers but the capacity of the Interstate batteries were a lot lower than the other batteries I've used in the past. I realized it when the battery i was running the bait pump on would run down before the end of the day when other batteries would run the pump all day with no issues. I then noticed the capacity ratings of both batteries and the Interstate was a lot less.

OK What other companies names are better ?
I use 5 batteries for different machines like mowers & generators. Those old batteries go to 2 Rule computer pumps in the basement. I have built trickle chargers to keep all batteries at 13.5 vdc. Supposedly the ideal long term voltage to prevent sulfation of the Lead plates with no boiling off of the liquid. So far so good.

Not which one is really better, but mire of "which gives you more bang for the buck. Decades back, I swore by Sears batteries, typically got seven plus years out of them, then they became trouble. Used Duralast for a while, then they became unreliable and costly. For a few years just bought various brands and crossed my fingers. Around 2015 or a little before tried WallyWorld batteries and had good sucess. Not saying I didn't have a couple issues, but when I took it back, no questions just gave me a new battery!! Whenever I had issues with other batteries, you had to go thru all kinds of excuses or testing before a resolution was made. Never with WallyWorld. And you can't beat there price. My current batteries are from 2019 and going strong, except for the house battery, it gave up over the winter and I replaced it this spring. Had some issues with the new one, but then found an issue with a switch and a SS radio that appeared to have a short. Removed those v two problems and all is good, might have been those issues that caused the early demise of my house battery...who knows....but, for the price, you don't hear me complain. Are there better batteries...I am sure there are, but at what cost and return policy ??

Agree.....

You can't compare batteries using anecdotal evidence.
To many factors influence the usable lifetime of a battery.

My batteries:
"Auto parts house" brand in both cars
Motorcraft AGM in the Pickup
Exide in Tractors
Everstart DC in Boat and Golf cart
Interstate U1 (lawn and garden) in the Zero turn

Seasonal use = 9-10 months a year
Batteries not trickle charged.
All batteries stored outside, in the vehicle.

Typically get 5-6 years out of a battery with the exception of the AGM for some reason. Had four Optima RedTops that didnt make it out of the 3 year replacement warrenty.

The Motorcraft AGM is only a year old at this point. Will have to wait and see how it holds up

Warrantees have consequences….lol

All kinds of legal and financial ramifications associated with warranties clauses

Imagine completing a Project but you don’t get your final payment until the warranty has expired, say in 24 months?

How about the mandate that you must carry a warranty reserve to cover your warranty exposure until the warranty expires.

Then there are the evergreen warranties….
Imagine being required to warrant a part for two years….if the part fails, the warranty starts over again.

Noting of course, the financial requirements above apply as well…lol

Why customers ARE NOT buying new anything. Unless it is non repairable.
People should know a company can put a TIMER in the controls to fail at 1 year and 1 month of time. Or anytime they desire. A reboot by a factory technician can restore service for another year.
Ethical ?

My new A/c had a full 5 yr warranty that covered everything, second 5 yr was pro rated which is a joke. Been 25 yrs with just one capacitor replacement.

As I already stated ,Interstate batteries are crap and reading others have much more proof than I do about the absolute crappyness. (thats a word ?right?) Walmart batteries have been made by Johnson Controls. Not all of them but the ones I have had made by J.Controls have been reliable for 5+ years.I believe the batteries with the longer warranties are the Johnson batteries. Charlie

My central AC in the house is still original since 1976. 1 compressor replaced. They really did make equipment better back then.

Very much so…. we imbed a software “kill switch” in every piece of equipment we sell.

Why… to protect ourselves from customers who use the equipment maliciously and/or those who fail to comply with the terms of the contract.

Is it ethical to share your streaming service password with others, even though the Terms and Conditions of use say otherwise?

Agreed about appliances et al. We have an 80s Kenmore fridge and a 70s Hobart dishwasher that I refuse to get rid of. A good friend redid his house a few years back and has all modern appliances and they all are junk.

For batteries I go buy whatever is most convenient to get a hold of when they fail (not if). There are only like 2 or 3 manufacturers of batteries left anyway. Granted they are all built to a specification but still.... I am hard pressed to get more than 5 years of service out of one in any application regardless of brand or chemistry/construction type....
