Well, I am the new and proud owner of the 16 feet starcraft SS. I will post the pictures when the weather will be a bit better (snowing outside). It is 1985 with 40 hp force (it does not run anyways, so do not kick me for it). I got it for 1800. And very happy about it!

Ozenine, that is GREAT news:D Congrats!

I know how long you had been looking for a rig just like that(almost as long as me;)) so I know you've got to be pretty stoked about it:)

I'm pretty much planning on having to repower my rig at some point too, hopefully I can get one good summer out of my Merc.

Anxiously awaiting some photos...:p

Ok, as promised, here are some pictures.
I also checked the compression on the motor - I am not sure if I did it right, I unscrewed the sparkplugs, took them out, installed tester in first cylinder, cranked the motor for 2-3 seconds, got reading, zerowed down the tester, and did same thing with other cylinder. Is taht right procedure?
The compression was 135 in both of them, which is very good, if I checked it properly.

Aslo I was exremely pleased to find out that it was original paint and noboby tampered with it, it is not in the good shape, but way easier to sand out than 2-3 coats of old paint. The only things that were replaced were transom and floor, the only issue is that they put new floor on top of the old one, so will have so will have to fix it. But will probably run it (if I will get the motor running ) for the summer and will be doing maintenance later.

Also I was very happy to find a lot of goodies inside, such as bimini top (needs some work), cover for the bow, bumpers, couple older lifejackets, swimming ladder, flashlight, etc, etc, etc.

Anyways here are the pictures.

Hey that boat looks familiar! There might be a fella around here that is redoing a boat that looks just like it (Huron)! Though he has focus issues so you should catch him pretty quick:D:D

Great find!

It sure looks familiar:D Nice rig, lots of yellow:)

If you don't want those old, ratty moldy canvas tops I will take them off your hands Oz;) (just kidding, congrats on the new rig!)

Glad you finally got one Oz. That one looks to be in good shape structurally and should be good to go until you're ready to fully restore it. That's a newer Force and with that compression you should be able to get it running. Lots of help for you from the gurus in the Chrysler/Force section on here. I'd get it running and use it for a while and start keeping your eye out for a 3 cylinder Johnson/Evinrude. Those are ideal power for 16' SC's. Nice find!!!

Well, my plan is like that:
1) Try to get this motor running and if successful use it for the season, as is
2) Look out for the nice Evinrude, like you said
3) If I will be using the boat enough (not like 1 time a year), then during winter repaint the hull, trailer, redo the floors, interior, etc

QUESTION: What size of anchor do I need? I was thinking 15 lb (25 bucks) anchor with 4 feet of galvanized chain and long rope ? Or should I go to 28 lb (45 bucks)?

They have those anchors on sale this week and they are kinda rubberized from outside, not sure if they are made out of whole rubber or just outside rubber.

I thought that I saw that rig somewhere .... LOL. Yours in the better shape though. At least mine is structurally sound this time ;) . My wife was happy cause she likes yellow (this one is kinda dirty yellow though ). Are you keeping this color? I was thining about going to bright orange :), more metallic one, like chevy has on their Avalanches.

Those are probably just coated with rubber. I'd say that a 15lb anchor will be ok except in very strong current or wind. Are these the mushroom style river anchors?

The style with claws that bite into structure will hold better in extreme conditions.

I will be keeping at least two anchors on my SS, possibly even three just in case I need them or if another boat needs to borrow an anchor to raft up sometime.

We are going to redo the yellow probably with easypoxy sunflower. It's not a bright yellow, but not quite as much mustard as the factory. I'm not going back with the yellowish off-white though, I'm considering some type of grey instead.

I love orange boats:) If it weren't for the yellow rub rails keeping me original I would seriously consider going with orange myself.

HA, Rubrails... I hear you. I was thinking about them as well......
Anchor is the one with claws, not the mushroom style.
This one: http://www.princessauto.com/truck-trailer/truck-accessories/off-road/8271264-15-lb-navy-anchor?keyword=anchor

Ok, so you would recommend 2-3 smaller one than 1 big one?

I have one just like the one in your link only with no rubber/vinyl on it.:)

These boats aren't heavy enough to warrant an anchor much bigger than that in my opinion unless you are gonna be in serious weather.

The idea with having more than one relates mostly to fishing while anchored. In order to have two-three guys fishing the same shoreline nothing beats an anchor off the bow and one off the stern.

Even the slightest breeze will drive you nuts and tangle lines as the boat swings back and forth with only one anchor at the mercy of the wind.

One other way to go is the danforth anchor. These don't weight nearly as much, although they are big, but they grab very well and would be best for overnight moorings when you don't want to worry about drifting.

Thanks man! I know what to do.

Also Another question. When the boat sits on the trailer at the back it is tied up to the trailer by the strap. What should be the capacity of the strap? I am not sure if the one I have is sufficient.
