Hydrofoil or Trim Tabs

I bought a 2000 Triton 172 this year. I like it a lot, but I want to fish in the Chesapeake Bay and really have to pick my days with seas being 1 foot or less or I get slammed pretty good. I'm thinking of getting either trim tabs or a hydrofoil to plane the boat faster and at slower speeds for a better ride. I would appreciate any advice from someone having experience with either of these on a 17 footer.

Re: Hydrofoil or Trim Tabs

Baydude,

Welcome aboard!!! Hands down, no question, without a doubt . . . tabs. There is some evidence that tails/foils work on some boats. Usually much smaller. In almost all other cases, trim tabs are simply awesome. Will make you feel like you have a new, and bigger, boat. I prefer helm adjustable, but SmartTabs also work very well.

Do a search in the Boat Topics section ^^^^^^^^ You will find this topic (horse) well beaten!!
