Hydrofoil and smart tabs?

I have an 08 Q6 that I installed the smart tabs on and it did help out a lot with the porpoising. But it didn't totally take care of it. I was wondering if you could also add a hydrofoil to fix the little bit that is left? Or does anyone have any other ideas? Like a new prop mine is the factory issue one. While I have you guys here, I plan on getting a new prop (4 blade)....any suggestions. Not really looking to add performance, just wanted to have an extra and get the factory one off as it needs to be refinished. Thanks all!!

I wouldn't put a hydofoil on the outdrive, it adds alot of stress on the drive. I have a four blade prop, and my boat still porpoises. Just learn to drive through it, a little throttle here or there and it will correct itself.

What prop would you recommend for my boat? (4 Blade)

I run a solas 14.25 17 pitch for blade. I have a 5.0mpi and bravo 1 outdrive, so it would depend on your engine, but I would say that your boat would run this prop. The 17 pitch is a little underpitch for my boat I believe, as fully loaded I can turn about 5300 rpms, so I never run it full throttle. It has termendous hole shot though...I recently picked up a 21 pitch highfive for cheap so I'm gonna try it out.. So to answer your question I would recommend a 17-18 pitch 4 blade....

Biggs,

Check out this thread:

We have almost the same boat - mine's an 07 Q6 with the 190 hp 4.3L. The Solas Amita 4 14 X 21P gives me great holeshot and 46 - 47 mph top end at 4600 rpm. I don't think you'll go wrong with this one.

Hey Biggs...consider a stainless steel prop. You pay more, but they last longer and add performance. I have a 2006 Q6 SF. I don't have tabs or a hydrofoil. I correct the porposing problem by bringing the trim up a touch after I plane out and it runs smooth.

Try working your trim on the out drive. You may lose a little preformance but you gain a smoother ride in rough water.
