I have a 68 55hrs and was out on the lake today putting around and then went in the fast lane for a few laps. When we were done we started puttin around again and i was shifting between forward and neutral and while i was in nuetral i heard a sound like it makes when you shift into gear then i got nothing. I tried to shift into forward an nothing then i tried reverse and nothing. I tried disconnecting to two wires going to the lower unit to see if would stay in forward nad it didnt just stayed in neutral. After i towed back to shore we tried to spin the prop and it was in gear but when we started the motor again it stayed in neutral. Im new to boating as this is my first and i really could use some advise as to what the problem might be thanks for your time.:grumpy::blue::mad:

Re: hydro electric shift help please

OK i think i might have two problems. The first i pulled the wires off the shift sylinoid and i 6ohms to each but when i check both together i get a reading oh 11.5 ohms, does this mean i have a short somewhere and that is why it stays in neutral even when the leads are disconnected? when the motor is not running the prop is in gear because when i turn it by hand the fly wheel turns. The second problem i think i have is in the shifter. when i check voltage at the connectors going to the sylinoid when it is in neutral im only getting 3 volts on the one wire and when in reverse i only get about 3 volts on both wires. And when in forward i have no voltage at either wire but no matter what gear i put it in the motor stays in neutral. I checked the lu oil and it is full and has no water in it. Im i right to assume i now have to problems the shift sylinoid and the switch in the conrols any help would be greatly app. thanks again guys i really need help
