Hello everyone, I have quotes for a hydraulic steering system.

Seastar came in about 60% higher than Hydrive.

Is Hydrive a bargain, or do you "get what you pay for"? The only other thread I can find on this is 14 years old... and a lot can happen in 14 years in an industry like this.

Thoughts, opinions? thanks everyone!!

Quick internet search turned up they are based in Australia.

Represented in the SE US by Coaster Marketing Inc which employees 2-10 people in a location in Florida

I’ll pass…..

that's my current thoughts. They may have great products, but if they're mostly across the pond, I may be better off paying the extra amount for a more common, US supported platform.

I got "caught" if you want to call it that, on a front loader I bought (~1/2 the price) for my tractor.

German company..........quality product, but come to find out no support in the U.S.

The rubber boot on the hydraulics control dry rotted. Fortunately, I was able to identify the OEM then cross reference that to a part from a local supplier. Could be a real pain should I need a OEM factory part

Well, I found a couple ways to get the price more comparable with some discounts and a fortunate ebay score that hopefully pays off.

BUT A SHOUT-OUT TO HYDRIVE:
But I've been in contact with the US reps for Hydrive, and I have to say, 100% satisfied with customer service and support!! Fast communication, clear explanations, and excellent parts availability! If you're in the market for a hydraulic steering system, and won't necessarily require a local US marina to do the service (I'm my own marine mechanic for example), I wouldn't hesitate to try out a Hydrive system. I certainly will on my next install!
