Methinks the term "hybrid" is getting overused and abused. Take these guys for example "http://www.craigcatmichigan.com/id5.html".
This is not a hybrid as there is no mechanical connection to the propulsion system (Minnkota Trolling motor). It has a removable generator to provide electric power for the trolling motor. For easy understanding here is an example of a hybrid drivetrain, scroll down to see the one for the Prius.

The other day I was reading that someone was calling railroad locomotives "hybrids" when they are diesel/electric, meaning that they are driven by electric motors and happen to carry their own diesel powered generators.
