Went to bed last night and woke up a couple times and felt a little warmer than normal. Also thought the air handler wasn't shutting off. Get up at 530 and thermostat shows 77* and we keep it at 75*.

Find the outside unit fan nor compressor is running. Text with my HVAC buddy and in short time we determine it's the dual run Cap (45 and 5 micro farad). One place 30 minutes away has the Cap so I get it, install and all is running again. Place sold it for $49.50 and was 30 minutes from home. I could have got it for $23 from home depot, but HD is 1.5 hr away.

This is a 2 Ton unit and less than maybe 5 years old. Look up on charts and it says Caps this size are normally on 3 and 3.5 ton units. I have the same unit in my vacation rental (3 years old) so guess I'll be buying another to have on hand

I am surprised that HD stocked it. Amazon likely has it and delivery is a day or two, usually.

That link showed that no stores in my area (Toms River, NJ) stock it, but it could be ordered.

On a general note, I have had mixed results ordering stuff from HD. Sometimes you receive it on time and sometimes you don't get it for a long time, or ever. Not what you want for A/C parts in a heatwave.

We have a local Ferguson HVAC store locally. Maybe that is why our local HD doesn't stock it.
