Re: humber jewel

hi bud...

you are in the right spot for boats....in fact this place is known as a boat university.

however......unless someone has decided to break away from the best marine paints like awl grip or bright sides and go to your hamsman spar urethane then they have no direct knowledge of the product you are using....so there fore cannot advise.

just a thought

cheers

Did you try what I recommended in your other post about same subject? My ideas aren't flying out my *** I've been painting professionally for 15 years. Nobody can help you if you aren't keeping us updated on what techniques are and aren't working for you. If you can't figure it out, try switching brands.

hi there ty again for your reply i went out and bought 220 which the can calls for and got 800 as well there both wet and dry paper the trouble is i'v tried days where its cool do to high temps it dry to fast and it won't lay flat sprayed it on with air gun and now got good job but over spray is a killer so can i find sand th last coat and buff out the over spray and wax not sure how to finish it, can i thin it and wipe it on if so how is the thinning done say 50/50 20/50 just say if i use the same can size as the urathane comes in and put say half a can in it do i fill the can up half urathane half thinner or spirits and then wipe it on with a rag or roll it on and let it flat on its own then buff and wax really confused do to all the sights i'v read but didn't fine a whole lot on the finishing coat like the end results {finished job} got like 6 to 8 coats on with the clear just lost one the finishing part ty

You should buy a Flow Agent. NOT thinner. Paint thinner is great for thinning and helping oil based varnish and paint flow. It does not help when using with your urethane. With a smooth finish, Use a flow agent, put a good think coat on, and you should be fine. Follow directions on the bottle, most call for about an ounce per gallon.

And yes, a wet sand and buffing is a perfectly acceptable way to finish the paint job.

well i wet sanded the red for the last coat of urathane wet sanded with 220 and then 800 and washed it with soap and water let it dry for about an hr and re done it again but the spot that i cleaned up and sprayed came out crapie again got gourges and pools in just that spot put on a thin spray and thats what the out come was. I know the gun i got is crap wasn't gonna use it for the urathane but it worked somewhat good for the paint so still not surewhat to make of what i'm doing wrong wondering if it might have been the soap any way ty ps fine sanded out the runs so now after i get that spot figured out gonna get a buffer lol

Ok stick to one post. You'll be able to keep track of all the advice people have given you. Get a flow agent! Put a thick coat on. Paint is meant to level itself out. It is a material, not just a color, and must be applied thick to level itself out.

You say you sprayed it on thin, well that's what happens when you do so. It's not going to look good. You don't have to spray if you roll/tip and have a flow agent mixed in with the paint to slow down the flash time.

And if you REALLY can't get it, take the boat to somebody in to Bancroft Auto body with everything all masked off and prepped properly for spray, give the shop owner 50 bucks and a case of beer and ask him to spray it for you.
