I pulled my boat out this fall and discovered a localized area on the stern that has a group of small blisters. I was able to see them clearly as the anti-fouling paint has worn off in the area. I plan to dremel them out and fill them in the spring and am hoping someone can coach me on the product and process to use to do it right. Any suugestions are appreciated. I have attached a pic.Norfolk County0-20111001-00031.jpg.

I can't tell from the pic exactly what I'm looking at, might need to back up a little, I do see some blisters though.

As far as what to do...read the threads at the bottom of this page or do a search. After that you'll have a good idea of what to do and will have more details questions about your hull.

They do sort of look like screws.

Thanks for the replys guys- you are right that that is what they apear to look like, but I consulted the mechanic and we busted one of them open, and it definitely is a blister. We scraped one out and there is no screw in behind, just a suirt of liquid.

Ok then ..

What I would do is die grind them out and fill them with Vinylester Resin/Cabosil mix. Fair and then apply some bottom paint to it.

You could go the route of Epoxy/Cabosil .. just make darn sure ALL of the moisture is out of the repair .. then fair and bottom paint.

I would stay away from regular Poly resin in this case ..

Re: Hull Zits - Osmosis Blisters

Thank you YD. could you recommend a brand of the Vinylester Resin/Cabosil? (Seahawk?) is the vinylester used because it retains less moisture? I was looking at the Interlux bottom paint products for this repair but did not see a Vinyl Ester type offered. What is your opinion of the interlux products?

Thanks, KL

I dont think it matters much on Brand for the VE resin. I get it from my local dealer. Cabosil is just a filler you add to the resin .. again does not matter where you get if from.

Interlux has good products .. I use them all the time.
