Hi,

I've found a boat with a problem at deck to hull joint. As you can see from the pictures, there seems to be a separation between the joint. Weirdly enough, it appears to be be on either side of the engine mount but the two cracks are separate, meaning that there is no crack/separation right under the engine mount. Similarly, there is no cracks or anything in the splash bowl either. What to think of it? Could it be that these separations in the seam are caused by the vertical corner of the deck (roughly at the same area) tearing the deck-half apart from the hull??
Any thoughts on this? left side.jpgright side.jpg

Check the transom see if it is getting soft. Drill it inside is it wet or rotted.

It reads, you found a boat.... Do you own it or plan on buying it? From the pics, it looks like the motor was removed, and the plastic sheet was added to the back. Them cracks look like they were attempted fix's. Suspect the transom is rotted. I see no rubrail in the pics either, did it come with one, or does that boat not have one??

what you are seeing is someones creative hull repair. that appears to be a piece of plywood formed in place creating a lip.

the boogered repair is an attempt at fixing the failed "creative" repair

they dont make boats like that as far as i know.

the piece of plastic under the motor clamp was required to clear the creative repair

if your planning on buying the boat, consider it a project hull with a motor, or simply walk away.

I agree. The transom on this boat has failed and someone has attempted to do an inferior repair. This boat is NOT seaworthy and at the very least will require a new transom install but in all reality it'll probably be a full GUT JOB repair. Budget for doing this will be in the $2-3K range and about 100-150 hrs of your time.
