image.jpgimage.jpg:mad:image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgOk so here we go long story short I have a nautiglass and was told to remove the floor to check the transome. But I have since found that on this boat the floating floor doesn't go right to the edge (I'm an idiot I know) so I now have two saw cuts right through the hull how on earth do I fix this mess, any advice would be great. Thanks

Hi and welcome, eden...
From the looks of it you are going to be into a full restoration on this boat...not because of what you did, but by the looks of all the mulch in there...
So the damage you caused is absolutely no big deal...
Almost all of us have created new leaks in our boats as we go through the demolition stage...
Relax, finish all of your demolition, get everything ready for the installation of new stuff, read through a few restoration threads to get a good idea of what lies ahead, and after a bit of sweat equity and cash, you'll end up with a better than new boat...
Post more pictures of what you are working on, we are gluttons for boat pics...
Check out the signatures of the guys who post on here to check out their on going or completed projects...
But most of all, have Fun!
Best regards,

Hi eden.genet, lots of helpful folks here to guide you through your project. You've just added a couple of small items to your 'to do' list. (Read a few resto threads and you will see you're not the first to have cut thru the hull, and for everyone who's done it, about a hundred of us probably came pretty close!)

One thing that's particularly helpful as you post pics: in addition to close-ups, a wider shot, showing the location on the boat of the close-up view, is very helpful.

Good luck, and I'm on board to watch your progress and help if I can.

Welcome to iboats!

Um, what's this a pix of:
attachment.php

That ^^^ looks like the transom. And that it's been cut down to the deck......

Is it an outboard or an inboard/outboard?

Soooo did you cut the entire transom off of the back of the boat? A Picture of the entire rear of the boat would be helpful.

and post some wider pics as asked. Yes I cut the transom out of the boat as told by a friend whom is a boat builder. He's very busy so I'm not going to be getting to much advise from him. But hopefully he can make it around here to sort this transformer out. I was very worried about this project (to say the lest) but have a renewed enthusiasm with the positive posts from you guys

Thanks

Don't you worry yourself about your friend, the boat builder, not being available...

Re: Hull stuff up

So im guessing that my next step will be to remove the flooring? what is used to do this and how? an angle grinder with a grinding wheel attachment? ps this boat is a nautiglass sportsman. How is the existing floor removed as the fiberglass over it seems to go right to the sides of the boat? I will take some more pictures tonight when I get home if its not to dark.

Kind Regards

Yes and yes, but pics will help us help you. If removing the decks, you will want a grinder with a cutoff wheel. You can also use a circular saw set to a shallow depth. You will want to just cut deep enough to get through the deck and not much more until you know what is under it and its removed. Leave a couple inches around the perimeter of the boat next to the hull sides so you know exactly where the old flooring was after it is removed and this will also help with tabbing in the new floor later down the road.

Depending on how much decking you have to take up, and how thick the fiberglass tabbing is between the deck and the hull, you may find the circular saw, set very shallow, is the way to go. I tried using a cutoff wheel and even a small metal saw blade on my 4" grinder when I was removing my deck. It would have taken forever to cut things out with the grinder. I quickly gave up on that and went with a circular saw, which made quick work of the job. Gotta be careful where (and how deep) you cut, though...

I read of some folks using a Sawzall, holding it at an angle to cut shallow, but that really made me uncomfortable...

Welcome to the drydock eden ! Did the boat builder guy tell you to cut the whole transom out or did he say you need to cut out the transom . If he said to take the whole thing out he sure caused you to have a bunch more work ahead of ya . All that was needed was the inside skin cut out . It can be fixed . :) Listen to the guys here and take there advice . There is a tremendous amount of knowledge here and guys willing top help !
Good luck and keep us posted !
