Hull structure

Im new to the forum and just bought my first boat after wanting one for many years. It's a 1992 Sea Arrow with a 5.8L I/O OMC. Besides wanting to hear for others that own this model, I need some advice on the structure of the hull. All seems sound except that water collected in the center storage area doesn't seem to drain well. Poking around it appears that it should drain from under the gas tank and into the rear reservoir and exit out the drain plug. I think the area under the gas tank is clogged. I could just stick my finger in the drain hole for this area and felt a lot of wet wood. Pease keep my hopes up! Thanks

Re: Hull structure

The boat is 20 years old . . . so it probably has some structural issues. You should poke around in the engine compartment and any places that you can reach. I have a 21 year old boat that is fairly solid, but I recently found the bulkhead had rotted and worked its way into the stringers, etc. So, wood rot is almost inescapable.

That area under the gas tank is probably a good place to start. The engine mounts are also a good place to look. Just remember the old saying "where there is smoke, there is fire".

Any place that does not drain because of clogged passages/fittings, tubing, etc should be easily cleared with with a coat hanger or some plastic tubing, etc.

I see that Sea Arrow has boat models listed on NADA up through 2010. I'm not sure how many are out there, but you may hear from some folks, as there is a wide reaching membership on this forum.

Re: Hull structure

Thanks for the reply. The engine compartment looks good, dry and the mounts are solid. The area I am concerned with is the under deck storage and how water gets out (or in!) baffles me. I stuck a ruler under the rear gap in the storage area (which is carpeted) and it kept going for a good 15' until it stopped. But against what? I never could see or find the end of the ruler. Does anyone know where I can find a "schematic" or diagram of what my hull structure looks like when the deck is removed? Are there channels, compartments, etc. This would help me determine where to look and where to possibly clean out once I know what I am working with. Thanks!
