Those side windows are cool. Definitely worth rebuilding to give yourself a nice boat!

Looks like a good project. I did this with a 1972 Sea Ray 190SRV, in 2008. http://newboatbuilders.com/pages/SeaRay190.html Lots of good advice so far. I would only ad two things; 1. take your time and do it right. 2. you will spend far more than you would if you had simply bought a newer boat, but it will be worth it when you get it finished. Nothing like a job well done.

I would pull the cap to make your job easier.

on your question on resin, I would use good old poly. you cant gel coat epoxy

Looks like a great project worthy of a restoration. I didn't pull the cap on my Chap due to space limitations and haven't had any issues. Yours looks like it would be easy to work in without pulling the cap as well. Certainly is easier to keep the original shape of the boat with the cap on IMO. Then again I only have 1.25 builds under my belt.......:shame:

Dont think I would cap it either, to much room for error. Appears you can get to it all with it on.

Yeah I'm thinking the side wings of the stern will have some wood in em too. I've seen similar designs and the wings had wood. But. I appears that the design of the cap should allow you to remove and replace any/all areas of the stern without having to remove the cap. Clamping the areas is a bit more "involved" but can be done with a bit more planning. If you need help on clamping let us know.

Well after a long week and half of on call at work, im finally back! Ive made some progress on build. Stringers are removed and ive started to grind every thing down. Some places seem to be really thick. How smooth does this need to be? Ill post pics later tonight.

You can look at some of my pics on my thread. Really you just need to smooth everything out, and get down to clean fresh pink glass. I have run into a lot of starved fibers and some delamination due to water intrusion. I'm grinding all that out. There is a lot of thick roving tabbing on my Chap that is in good shape. I'm just cleaning it some, but leaving most of it in. No reason to grind more than you need to.
