Hello all. Me and my family recently purchased a USCG documented 1972 Pacemaker Aft Cabin cruiser and have run into a question regarding our hull ID number. Since it is a documented boat, all of the sale and ownership paperwork were based upon the CG issued documentation number, nothing referenced the Hull ID (HIN). Our insurance company wants this as part of their requirements and I am having a hard time finding the original hull ID issued by Pacemaker. Does anyone know where it was placed on these boats? I checked the usual area on the transom but nothing is there. In looking into it further it looks like any HINs issued after late 1972 were required to be on the transom, but before that it was up to the original manufacturer as to where to locate it. If anyone knows where Pacemaker was placing the number prior to moving it to the transom after 1972 I would greatly appreciate any information you could provide. Thanks in advance!

•Prior to Nov. 1,1972 there were no requirements for a “HIN” to be assigned to recreational boats. Manufacturers used mostly serial numbers. The serial number assigned to the vessel by the manufacturer was unique to that manufacturer, but had no prescribed format beyond that specific manufacturer.
If your boat was built prior to that it is possible that it does not have one.
Here are instructions from the USCG on how to obtain one from your state.

HID's, and maybe serial numbers can be in locations other than a transom badge. Mine has another badge in the engine bay, and I just discovered a third behind the dash gage panel.
