Hull damage?

I hit a stump on Toledo Bend and put about a 12' split in the hull of my 07 Skeeter ZX225. The split runs from about 4' in front of the console all the way to the plug. I am concerned about the repair and whether or not it will have the structural integrity that the hull had when it was new. Also, it would make sense to me that the cap should be removed and the hull repaired from the inside and the outside? The split is bad enought to be felt and seen. The boat was also taking on water. Looking for some opinions from someone that knows about hull repairs. I would appreciate your help.

Re: Hull damage?

For damage that bad you'll probably need to repair from both the inside and the outside. The more important is the inside.

If you hit something that hard there's likely to be structural damage, IE problems beyond just the hull split. Those have to be repaired first, then the fiberglass needs to be repaired. If the structure isn't checked and fixed, the boat won't be safe.

On the bright side, if you repair the structure properly and then the hull split so it both looks good and is strong, then likely your boat will in fact be more structurally solid than when it was built.

Post some pics and we can tell you more.
