I just bought a used fiberglass hull boat and it has some white residue caked on the bottom of the hull. It appears to scratch off with your fingernail and has a shine beneath. What would be a good product to use to clean this stuff off? I think the boat was primarily used and moored in Lake Michigan. Thanks.

Re: hull cleaning

Use Starbrite Instant Hull Cleaner. Follow the directions on the bottle. Then apply a good cleaner-wax to the hull to remove any oxidation. If the "chalk" is really bad you may need a rubbing compound to clean it up. Try the Meguiars website for more info..........

Another thing you can try, like a liquid rubbing compound for boats is: marine "MaryKate" brand, "Clean, & Detail" you'll find it at most good boat supply stores.
