Hub or pin?

I have a 1988 Johnson 90TLCC. On a recent trip, it would run at low rpm and would only rev at high rpm. A little later on the same trip, it engaged and ran well at higher rpm. I did risk it and ran it again on another trip and had no problems. Does this sound like a hub or pin problem (or something else) and how easy is this to fix?

You need to put a better desacription to the problem. You said it runs at low rpm and ran well at high rpm????

Re: Hub or pin?

What you are describing is a spun hub if im understanding you correctly. Although I cant see it not spinning on the other 2 outings. Draw a line across the hub and prop or use the cotter pin as a center line, run the motor in the water, then pull it out when you hear it "rev". Are the lines no longer lined up? Your hub is spun, you can get it re hubbed or buy a new prop, depending on the condition of your prop and the amount you want to spend.

Re: Hub or pin?

Thanks for the feedback and sorry if my description was vague. It was fine at low rpm, but at high rpm the engine revved but I got no propulsion leading me to believe it was just spinning. A little later in the same trip, it began to run well and ran well on the following trip as well.

I would prefer not to spend a lot so I may look at getting it rehubbed.

You can buy new or reman for that engine pretty cheap. They're all over e-bay. Don't overprop it. That engine needs to turn 5500 RPM at wide open throttle.

Every one inch in pitch is worth 200 RPMS +/-.
