Well there is good and bad news. The good is I received a new HP transom assembly (0L915000), the bad is I missed one digit in the part number and got one without trim senders. According to what I've found is it appears to have only one sender which is mounted to the side of the bell housing. The sender operates off a lever which is attached to the pivot pin. So to install I need to figure out what kit (if there is a kit) to purchase. Then would need to remove the pins, drill and tap holes and complete the install.

Once installed need to figure out how the wiring would be done. Sender (863187A2) has three wires. I'm figuring a common ground and one would be the switch side and the other the gauge. In manual 28 it shows very little about it or the mating end.

Called the local dealer and no one can find a kit, all parts are bought individually. So called the guy I bought it from and I'm just going to buy another with the sender and find another home for this one.

You can't return/exchange the HP transom?

That sender is now able to handle either digital and/or analog gauge read outs. But to do that I believe you'll need Mercury trim sender conversion module installation kit part # 845060A4. But staying with the HP transom, you still would lose your trim up "limit".

Gee wiz, I'm going to loose the trim limit and I still have to get a module to make the gauge work? You got to be kidding me

FT have a look here, it appears the limit and gauge can work but must use analog gauges (which I have) correct if wrong please

Good find there A.D!!!

I knew the digital sending unit handled the trim up limit for the smartcraft set up as they went to that design somewhere around 08 I believe it was but I didn't think it would work on the non smartcraft that's why I thought you needed two units on both sides. I didn't know they had that conversion module till I started looking around for you today plus I didn't know exactly how it worked till that page you linked.

You will notice this sending unit actually say Mercury New OEM Smartcraft Trim & Tilt Sender Sending Sensor Unit 863187A1 and not just OEM Mercury Smartcraft Trim Sender Assy. 863187A 1

So yes you should be able to make everything work with the one sending unit you have now on the HP transom if you buy the conversion module plus you'll have the better/heavier duty transom assembly at the same time.

If you look at service manual 33 page 3A-32 (connector "E") it will help you understand the trim wiring colors but go by the directions of the new module of course.;)

Does your new HP transom sending unit have 3 black wires with A B C tags on them or are they colored Orange, Gray? Blue/white wires? Looks like they went to colored wires now vs the old black wires.

Technology at it's best right here.:)

Whew, that was a close one. I have not ordered the new one yet but sent an email to order it, probably get confirmation tomorrow. Don't know if the sender has 3 black or any kind of wires yet. Sure hope it all works out, got more coin in this redo then any other I have tried. Looked at the pages and this will help on the install.

Many thanks, it's nice to know you can always be counted on to fill in the blanks.

Hey F.T. running into an issue. In your above post you mentioned part number 845060A1 as the module, but the ebay link takes me to 884359T1. Been on the phone with Merc and they say the 845060 is no longer available but do not have the 884359 in the system, yet on mercruiser parts as item 48. I can find the one you have on ebay and the other at greatlakes skipper. I had to point out the page to mercruiser tech and he even asked his race guy and they knew of none for digital to analog. The Merc tach has taken my info and will look into it further

Another whew, Merc called back and said they no longer sell a kit to install the digital to analog conversion. That being said the old part 845060A1 is the old kit which is no longer sold. The new part is 884359T1 which is the same as the old part but does not have the screws and spacers. So Merc is emailing over the info on the spacers and screws. In other words I learned the Merc guy something today. Great guy to, was always trying his best to answer the question. SO there is one place which has a complete kit GL skipper and I'm going to go get it.

Thanks for the update on this A.D. Item #48 in your parts diagram above is part number 884359T1. I saw both the kit number and part number so I posted the kit number since a kit is always better than just a part but I didn't no or think to check to see if the kit was "still" available, especially since I found the kit right away at GLS.;)

884359T1 MODULE ASSEMBLY, Trim Sender

I figured before they are gone, It's best to post the details of old kit number 845060A1 here so that the next person looking to do the same will be able to get the Merc part numbers to help make the new part number (884359T1) a more complete kit for installation purposes in the future.

Product Details

Mercury trim sender conversion module installation kit, mfg. model #845060A 4. HD Bravo XR and integrated transom system (ITS). Includes trim sender converstion module, part #884359A 1, two (2) spacers, part #23-849083, two (2) screws, part #10-818224 and installation instructions.

Received the new transom assembly with sender Part number 6511102NZ). It also came with the conversion module, so I have a spare. Here is what the sender looks like on the HP Transom. Single sender for both trim limit and gauge

Hi, I know this is a very old post but I am in the same boat. I’m looking at buying a boat (a 2000 Sea Ray 270) that has the same hp mercruiser transom assembly without the sending unit. There is currently no trim gauge. Do you remember what would be needed to put in a trim sender for a trim gauge and trim limit switch? To me, more important is the trim limit switch.

MOD EDIT: Please review the rules. It is best to start a new thread. Closed
