Re: HP and displacement
"And theoretically, an outboard producing 10 ftlbs of Torque at 5000 RPM will produce the same HP (WORK) as an outboard making 5000 ftlbs of Torque at 10 RPM. Work is Work, even though in some cases it is obtained by using more Torque."<br /><br />The above is technically correct. However, the 10ft lbs torque engine could never push the same load as the 5000ft lbs torque engine at the same horsepower. Example: A 300 hp Case IH tractor can always pull a heavier load than a 300 hp Chevy truck. However, they can both produce the same amount of work. Another example: A 250lb man can lift a maximum of 250 lbs and a 150lb boy could lift a maximum of 150lb. However they can do the same amount of work if the boy can lift 1.67 times the number of boxes compared to the man in the same amount of time.<br /><br />Hopefully Josip has a little more appreciation for us now!
