how to wire kill switch

was wondering if there is a standard way to wire a kill switch to mercury 850 85 hp outboard....bought boat has new key switch and controls but no kill switch, i bought a kill switch from marine store has two wires , any ideas of where these wires may go would help.....thank you....

Welcome to iboats!

You have to verify that the switch is for an outboard; one designed for an I/O or inboard won't work. It attaches to the two magneto wires that go to the ignition switch.

it says for outboard engines in the instructions just dont understand cause its an aftermarket key switch. if there are certain places they go any help would be great . thanks

The kill switch leads attach to the two terminals labelled "M" on the ignition switch.
